Getting Parents and Community Involved

Contra Costa Hosts "Spring Fling"

Twenty one families came to the Concord site of EMQ FamiliesFirst for an afternoon of fun and food – and to kick off our Community Advisory Board.

The children had a blast jumping and flopping in two jump houses, “chasing” a remote control car, fishing, completing craft projects, playing board games and challenging one another playing Wii. Their foster parents and relative caregivers spent time chatting and playing card games. A few even sharpened their bowling skills with the Wii game.

Each teen and adult completed a short survey and 15 parents/caregivers spent about an hour giving verbal feedback on our service delivery, areas of concerns and ideas for improving service delivery as well as funding ideas. Then the first official meeting of the Community Advisory Board was held two weeks later, and it was a huge success.

We need to help the children and change the system so that these children—our children—can grow up with a brighter future.
