Alice Waters, president of the Chez Panisse Foundation, visited the Larchmont Charter School’s Hollygrove campus and announced a new partnership for her Edible Schoolyards program. Waters joined Brian Johnson, LCS executive
director, in launching two new sites, in Los Angeles and West Hollywood, to
bring gardening and healthy eating into the school community and curriculum.
Los Angeles City Council president, Eric Garcetti, and Martine Singer, executive director of Hollygrove, joined students, parents and community members for the announcement and a lunch fresh from the garden, including salad, fruit, cheese quesadillas, beans and salsa. Martine said, “Since taking our services out into the community in 2006 and thus opening our campus to new partnerships, Hollygrove leases classrooms, garden, kitchen, and extensive outdoor space to the Larchmont Charter School.”
