Camp Benefits Extend All Year in After-School Program

Hollygrove Begins ‘Endless Summer’

Building on the continued success and popularity of Camp Hollygrove and in response to overwhelming need in our community, this fall we launched a new after-school program on our campus called Endless Summer. It offers many of the same therapeutic and enrichment activities as Camp Hollygrove, along with a focus on literacy and school achievement.

For many children and teens, Camp Hollygrove – and now, Endless Summer – may be the first place they feel valued, surrounded by staff that focus on their strengths and nurture their burgeoning talents. These are kids who normally don’t participate in team sports or plays at school, who turn to gangs for affirmation and a sense of belonging. At Hollygrove, they discover how to make positive choices, to mentor a young child instead of bullying, or write in journals instead of expressing their feelings with violence.

When typical after-school programs are not an option because of a child’s emotional and behavioral challenges, Endless Summer meets the need. Our partners include Larchmont Charter School, which shares our campus, and Vine Street Elementary, where we already offer on-site mental health services and with whom we have a decades-long history of collaboration. We work closely with teachers to improve the academic performance of the students they refer while also helping kids learn positive behavior and social skills.

Endless Summer depends entirely on your financial support. We also need volunteers to help on our campus with homework, tutoring, art projects and more.

For information on how your company or group can support or volunteer to help kids at Endless Summer, please contact Cathy Kort, cathy.kort@hollygrove.org, (323) 769-7142.

We need to help the children and change the system so that these children—our children—can grow up with a brighter future.
