Advocate for Alternatives to Residential Treatment for Kids
Promoted at EMQ FamiliesFirst

Lyn Farr Now COO at State’s Largest Children’s Services Agency

Sacramento, Calif., Nov. 17, 2009--Lyn Farr has been promoted to chief operating officer of EMQ FamiliesFirst http://www.emqff.org, California’s largest children’s social services agency.  When Lyn joined EMQ FamiliesFirst in 1998 as regional division director for Sacramento County, she successfully collaborated with other children’s agencies to introduce Wraparound services as an alternative to residential treatment in the county. From there, she was responsible for the growth of agency services to Placer and Nevada Counties, and provided oversight to agency operations in San Bernardino and Los Angeles Counties. Lyn brings more than 30 years of social service dedication and experience to her new position.

“Speaking for our board members and staff, we’re all excited about Lyn’s promotion,” said Darrell Evora, president and CEO of EMQ FamiliesFirst. “She is highly regarded and well-known for partnering with public child-serving systems as well as challenging them to ensure that the families we help have a voice in the process and are active participants in determining the services they need. She’s a strong advocate for Wraparound care and keeping children with their families.”

The Wraparound planning process ensures that children and adolescents with serious emotional and behavioral disturbances and their families are surrounded with comprehensive, individualized care and services so they can remain safely in their communities. Lyn’s efforts for change continue to target mental health and placement practices that over-rely on out-of-home care for youth with complex problems. The California Permanency for Youth Project and the Stuart Foundation recognized her work as one of Nine Models for Youth Permanency in the United States in 2004.

Before joining EMQ Families First, Lyn served as executive director at Miramonte Mental Health Services in Palo Alto, and as clinical director at Alliance for Community Care in San Jose and the Santa Cruz Community Counseling Center. She was named “Provider of the Year” in 1997 by Protection and Advocacy, Inc.

Lyn is a licensed clinical social worker, and holds undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
